Our campsite at Yardie Creek - Cape Range |
Marie is the youngest of seven children and had some funny stories to tell.
She said her whole family moved from Maryborough to somewhere mid New South Wales (I think) with all their possessions, in a station wagon. No trailer. That was it. They left lots behind, didn't own much in the first place, but they brought her mum's sewing machine! Sounds like my kind of lady.
Mares has a sister who lives in brookfield and who's son is at the same school in the same grade as Katie. It's a small world!
Took us all morning to pack up and fill up the van with water, but we were finally off, only to stop again at the supermarket to grab some final groceries. We met a man and his wife and their doberman dog from Sommerset in England. Stuart and Mel had a digeridoo with them and had spent some time in Arnham land. They were so interesting to talk to we chatted for a few hours! The kids all sat in the car playing on their computers! What great parents we are...
So we finally headed back down Cape Range, past the big prawn where there is a prawn farm, and further south towards Coral Bay.
The big prawn |
On Maree and Les' advice, we found a camping spot called Nine Mile which is in the middle of nowhere, by the beach. We are the only ones here, the caretaker's van is empty, and it is very windy, but it's a nice feeling being right away from everyone. There is a lot of rubbish here. Dominic found an ironing board, and Nadine moved some bricks and pieces of wood over to the van for a chair. Maree and Les said this was the best fishing they ever had, however, so we'll see how we go tomorrow.
Clearing the tumbleweed from the road at Nine Mile...we didn't bother clearing it after this |
